Privacy Policy

This policy explains what the Smart Research browser extension reads, what it stores, and — just as important — what it never does. It applies to the extension "Smart Research — BSR & Page Stats" wherever it is distributed (Chrome Web Store and direct install).

1Overview

Smart Research is a browser extension that displays Best Sellers Rank, listing date, category, and related research tools directly on Amazon search-result and product pages, so sellers can evaluate a niche without opening every listing individually.

Smart Research is built and operated by an independent developer, not by Amazon. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates.

2What we read

While you browse a supported Amazon page, the extension reads information that is already publicly visible on that page in order to display it back to you in a more useful form:

  • Product listings — title, image, price, rating, review count, sponsored status, and the "Best Sellers Rank" / listing-date / category fields shown on each product's own page.
  • The current search context — the keyword and filters in the page's own URL, used only to know which niche you're looking at and to fetch additional result pages when you use the "Merge Pages" feature.

This reading happens locally in your browser as the page loads. Smart Research does not operate a server, and none of this page content is transmitted anywhere outside your own device.

3What we store

Smart Research saves a small amount of data using Chrome's built-in storage API, entirely within your own browser profile:

Your settings

Your chosen accent color and whether the on-page banner is shown.

Research cache

A short-lived cache of Best Sellers Rank values you've previously seen (used only to draw an up/down trend arrow) and the highest listing count seen for a given search, so it stays accurate if you revisit the same search later.

Your favorites

Products you explicitly choose to save by clicking the star button: title, image, price, category, rank, and the keyword you found them under. This list is created only by your own action and is visible only to you, in the extension's own Favorites page.

None of the above ever leaves your device. There is no account, no login, and no remote database — uninstalling the extension removes all of it.

4What we never do

To be direct about the things this policy is usually written to rule out:

No account or sign-up No selling or sharing of data No analytics or trackers No advertising No keystroke or activity logging No location or IP collection No remote or third-party code

5Permissions, explained

Browser extensions must declare every capability they use. Here is what each one is for, in plain terms:

PermissionWhat it's for
storageSaves your settings, favorites, and research cache locally, as described above.
contextMenusAdds one right-click option to search selected text as a Merch on Demand listing on Amazon.
Amazon site accessLets the extension's on-page panel run on Amazon search and product pages across supported marketplaces, and on the Merch by Amazon listing editor for the trademark-check shortcut.

6Your data, your control

  • Remove a favorite anytime from the Favorites page with one click.
  • Clear everything at once using the "Clear All" button on the Favorites page.
  • Export or delete your favorites as a CSV file whenever you like.
  • Uninstall the extension to remove all locally stored data immediately — nothing remains anywhere else, because nothing was ever sent anywhere else.

7Children's privacy

Smart Research is a professional research tool intended for adult sellers and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect information from anyone.

8Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Effective" date at the top of this page will be updated. Since the extension stores everything locally and communicates with no server, changes to this policy do not change how your existing local data is handled unless stated otherwise.
